Mental Health Specialist will conduct bio-psycho-social assessments, provide individual counseling, and will lead the referral process to community based mental health providers for victims of human trafficking served in CHNJ’s Human Trafficking Victims Services program. Participates and shares information within agency case management process as appropriate. Responsible for creative approaches to the delivery of mental health services to client population. Provides services to all survivors with unconditional love and absolute respect. Mental Health Specialist participates in community networking and staff training. Documents and tracks program data. The Mental Health Specialist serves all clients served in the Human Trafficking Victim Services program, and all clients residing in North Jersey residential who have screen positive for a potential trafficking experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts biopsychosocial assessment with all identified victims of human trafficking and clients identified to be at high risk for trafficking.
- Participates in weekly clinical supervision.
- Documents client sessions and participates in the agency case management process, working within a team approach.
- Makes community mental health referrals and participates in referral of client to other mental health settings, while honoring the voice and autonomy of all survivors.
- Shares case information with relevant program staff as appropriate.
- Conduct ACE score of all residential clients who receive behavioral health assessment.
- Supports Resource Specialists with situations involving mental health crises.
- Represent the agency at agency functions, community partnership meetings and other stakeholder meetings.
- Liaise with the consulting psychiatrist/APN as needed.
- Research innovative therapies to treat people who have experienced trauma.
- Build and maintain relationships with outside mental health/substance use providers.
- Ensure agency protocols regarding human trafficking are carried out as needed.
- Reporting on outcomes for Behavioral Health Services.
- Assists as needed with fundraising affairs and special events which may be conducted outside the employee’s normal work schedule.
- Required to check company e-mail daily.
* This is a temporary Part-time/per-diem position with up to 20 hours a week from June 1st - August 10th, 2026. Additional Per diem hours may be available following August 10th but will not be guaranteed.
Hourly rate for this position is $33.00
Experience and Skills:
- State of New Jersey Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW, preferred).
- One to three years of experience working with individuals impacted by trauma preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
- Knowledge of issues affecting victims of human trafficking preferred.
- Knowledge of local mental health systems.
- A valid New Jersey driver’s license with an insurable driving record required.
- Must have use of your own transportation.
